About Little Faces Schools in Kenya It all began with a holiday to Kenya in 2011, when Sally Searle from the UK met Margaret, head teacher at Little Faces Schools in Mombasa and was so impressed by her dedication to the children that she decided to support Margaret's efforts in any way that she could. The school is in one of the poorest communities in Mombasa in Africa where education is a privilege and not usually accessible to the impoverished children of the community. The school was a rusty, tin shack held up with sticks and the children were trying to write on the rough floor as they had no desks and very few chairs. There were no toilet facilities, just a small room used by the entire community with no running water! Fast forward to 2020 and thanks to funds raised through Rotary, DHL and many individuals, there is now a new stone building with 4 classrooms and new toilets specially for the children. They also have hand washing facilities and of course much needed playground equipment for simply having fun! As Wangari Maathai, renowned Kenyan social, environmental activist once said: “Those of us who have been privileged to receive education, skills, and experiences and even power must be role models for the next generation of leadership.” If you would like to help Sally and Margaret with their vision to educate, empower and inspire the future leaders of Kenya, please contact them via the website link below.
