Reflections... This is one of the first prints we added to our print collection. A set of three portraits of a young man deep in contemplation. At the time that I painted this set of three portraits, the whole country was celebrating our beloved Nelson Mandela's 90th birthday. Many who visited the gallery at the time would ask if the paintings were inspired by him and although they weren't it has always stuck in my mind as a tribute to an amazing man who came from a small rural village and as a young man sacrificed so much for our nation. “For to be free is not merely to cast off one’s chains, but to live in a way that respects and enhances the freedom of others.” - Nelson Mandela
