Everything you need to know about framing your artworks

Stretching or framing your artwork can be done in many different ways and presents an opportunity to incorporate the style of the room where the prints will be displayed.

We like to keep it simple so all our originals and prints are simply stretched canvas using a standard size stretcher with the edges painted black. Many of our clients prefer to stretch them as we do in the gallery and this is very easy for your framers to do. Read more by clicking Details below.
 

Any framer who stretches artist's canvases would be able to stretch your canvas prints for you.
At the gallery, we prefer the thicker (more substantial) stretcher frame - It usually comes standard in 4.2 or 2cm depth.
We use the 4.2cm and our prints are supplied with sufficient extra canvas around the edges to allow for wrapping around and securing at the back.
Our framers use Dulux Satin Sheen enamel (black) to paint the edges once the artwork has been stretched.

Going the Extra Mile!

A huge shout out to the team at the local The Courier Guy depot in George, South Africa.

A customer called us yesterday, he'd been to our art gallery in Wilderness recently and had fallen in love with one of the artworks.
He was now in the Cape Town area and getting ready to head home to Scotland and had been thinking about the artwork since he'd seen it and decided that he really, really wanted to take it home with him.
 
He asked if there was any chance we could make a last minute delivery to Cape Town (he was staying in the southern suburbs quite a distance from the city) and get it to him before check in for his flight overseas.
 
We are not willing to shy away from a challenge and immediately began calling our network of freight agents but they were all dubious and declined saying it was too risky and they didn't want to disappoint us... or our client. (I think I have a reputation of being a bit of a tiger LOL)
 
However there was one person who was not willing to give up... Brenda, from The Courier Guy in George and she was absolutely determined to make it happen by sheer will alone!
My phone didn't stop ringing with new possibilities and suggestions coming in every few minutes that I would have to relay to our client and finally after much discussion about the risks, we decided that it was probably best to wait until he visited South Africa again and things weren't going to be so rushed.
 

Later that afternoon, after mulling it over, he called again and asked what I thought the chances of success were... At this point, I realised how much I wanted to make his day, and really wanted to believe we could do it so I said Okay, let's just GO FOR IT!
 

(And if it didn't work out then we could come up with a Plan B).
 

I was already in George at that moment, so I raced back to the studio in Wilderness, packaged the artwork, jumped back in my car and hightailed it back to George making it to The Courier Guy depot in the nick of time - cut off time is 4pm.

Brenda and Abri were waiting to help me get the paperwork sorted out which was a little tricky as our client did not have an SA contact number or a delivery address as he was going to collect it from the kiosk close to the airport.

I told Brenda she would have to make sure it gets to Cape Town in time because I didn't fancy swimming all the way to Scotland to deliver the artwork! 😜 She laughed and said not to worry and dealt with everything quickly and efficiently and the tube was finally labelled, sorted, weighed, measured and ready to board the truck bound for Cape Town.

Early this morning, I received a call from Brenda saying that Candice at The Courier Guy kiosk (King Air Industria in Cape Town) had the parcel and it was all cleared for hand over to our client. I contacted our client and he managed to pop in en route to the airport, emerging victorious, tube in hand and still had plenty of time to check in and board his plane.

So grateful to the team that made it happen! Couriers are a crucial extension to our business, if we make promises, they are the ones who have to keep them so we really appreciate them going the extra mile so that our client could take a special memory home!
